Surely somehow , Something has gotta give?
2026 started with so much hope. New year, new beginnings — we moved back to the UAE (lived here 20 years previously), dreaming of stability and a real opportunity for our kids again. All made sense to move here. But everything fell apart after the geopolitical crisis. My husband’s job collapsed. The company stopped paying salaries… then liquidated. He’s applied to over 400 jobs with almost no responses. I applied to jobs We reached out to everyone — family, friends but silence. We’ve had to pull the kids from school and homeschool to save money. Every day is a battle: nutrition, focus for our kids with ADHD, keeping their spirits up while I still run my South African business remotely — four years without taking a single salary for myself. I’ve cried. I’ve wanted to give up. I’ve tried manifesting, positivity, everything. But right now… I’ve lost faith. The world feels mad. The UAE is flashy cars , hotels, auction number plates, private jets costing $120k one way … while I worry about groceries. I’m not asking to be rich — just to put food on the table and give my kids security again. We’re only halfway through the year and it’s already been traumatic. If you’re struggling too, I hear you.
