Saffa parent tip: The UAE weekend is Friday and Saturday. Thursday evenings and Fridays are the busiest times at any attraction. Go on a Sunday or Monday morning and you will often have the place to yourself. In summer (May-September), outdoor activities are only possible before 8am or after 6pm. Plan all daytime activities indoors during these months.
Best beaches for families
- Kite Beach, Jumeirah — The most underrated family beach in Dubai. Calm, shallow water suitable for toddlers. Beach library, fitness areas, food trucks. Free to access.
- JBR The Beach, Dubai Marina — Walking strip, food trucks and weekend markets. Safe shallow areas for kids. Careem or taxi easy access.
- Al Mamzar Beach Park, Deira — Five clean beaches, grassy picnic areas and play zones. Small entry fee. Great for a full family day with a braai setup.
- Corniche Beach, Abu Dhabi — Wide, well-maintained, calm water. Free public sections and paid private beach sections. Best beach for Abu Dhabi residents.
- East coast beaches (Fujairah) — Cleaner and less crowded than Dubai. Al Aqah and Sandy Beach are the picks for a day trip.
Outdoor parks and green spaces
- Zabeel Park, Dubai — Small train ride, bike paths and play zones. Often missed by tourists but loved by Dubai residents. Small entry fee.
- Safa Park, Al Wasl — Playgrounds, paddleboats, cycling. Popular with families and joggers near Jumeirah.
- Al Barsha Pond Park — Free, well-maintained, great for evening walks and cycling. Popular with Al Barsha and JVC families.
- Dubai Creek Park — Cable car over the creek, mini golf, mini train. Good value family day out.

- KidZania, Dubai Mall — Kids step into a real-scale mini city and role-play as pilots, doctors, firefighters and bakers. Best for ages 4-12. Plan at least 3 hours.
- Indoor soft play centres — Cheeky Monkeys and Little Explorers across multiple malls. Go on a weekday morning for manageable crowds.
- Dubai Butterfly Garden — 26 domes, 15,000+ butterflies. Gentle and beautiful. Near Miracle Garden.
- Dubai Miracle Garden (November-April) — 150 million flowers. Kids go wide-eyed. Check it is open before going — seasonal attraction.
Indoor activities for primary school age (5-12)
- Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, Dubai Mall — 33,000 sea animals. Walk through the tunnel with sharks overhead. Kids of every age love this.
- Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates — Indoor snow slope. Penguins, snow play and skiing for older kids. Book online in advance especially on weekends.
- IMG Worlds of Adventure — Massive indoor theme park. Marvel zone, Cartoon Network, Dinosaur Adventure. Full day activity. Bring your own food: prices inside are high.
- LEGOLAND Dubai — Best for ages 2-12. LEGOLAND Water Park next door is a good half-day add-on in cooler months.
- SuperPark, Dubai Hills Mall — Large indoor adventure park. Trampolines, climbing walls, obstacle courses. Great for burning energy on a hot day.
- Green Planet, City Walk — Indoor tropical rainforest with sloths, snakes, birds and 3,000 plants. Educational and impressive. Allow 2 hours.
Indoor activities for tweens and teens (12+)
- Aquaventure Waterpark, Atlantis Palm — Best waterpark in Dubai. Tower of Neptune, Aquaconda and slides for all levels. Full day. Book online for better rates.
- Wild Wadi Waterpark, Jumeirah — Smaller and more relaxed than Aquaventure. Good Burj Al Arab views. Good for mixed-age family groups.
- iFly Dubai, Dubai Marina Mall — Indoor skydiving from age 3 upwards (weight limits apply). Exhilarating and accessible for most ages.
- Desert safari — Every Dubai family should do at least one. Dune bashing, sandboarding and camel riding. Kids consistently rate sandboarding as one of the best things they do in Dubai.

Practical tips for UAE family days out
- Book major attractions online — Walk-up prices are always higher. Many attractions offer 20-30% savings online.
- Go Friday mornings — Most attractions are quiet before noon on Fridays.
- Bring your own sunscreen — Sunscreen at UAE pharmacies is significantly more expensive than buying it in SA.
- Bring a light layer for malls — Air conditioning is aggressive even in summer.
